Terrace open all year; outdoor pool restricted November to March

Hotel 1898 suits guests who want a skyline terrace on La Rambla. The pool is for guests only, with the hotel giving June to September as the guest window, but non-guests can book a terrace table, subject to availability.

The pool

La Isabela, the rooftop terrace of the hotel at La Rambla, 109, has the outdoor pool. It has lounge chairs for sunbathing, a bar with tapas and a view of the Barcelona skyline at any time of day. No floor is published.

Our take

Seventy publishes its floor and Hotel 1898 doesn't. What 1898 offers instead is a terrace that outsiders can reserve, by phone through the hotel, for a drink or tapas. You get the view and the bar, though not the water.

The downside is the pool window. The hotel says outdoor pool use is restricted from November to March, so winter stays mean a terrace without a swim. The heated indoor pool in the spa thermal circuit is a different pool, not on the roof.

Good to know

  • Terrace open 12:00 to 24:00 usually, kitchen until 23:00
  • Non-guests can reserve terrace tables, availability permitting
  • Terrace is open all year

The catches

  • Pool is guests-only, with outdoor use restricted November to March
  • Pool floor isn't published

Best forGuests who want skyline views and a terrace bar on La Rambla.

Skip it ifYou need a rooftop pool that works without a room, or in winter.

Getting in

Only staying guests can swim. The hotel states that guests have the pool exclusively from June to September and restricts outdoor pool use from November to March.

Non-guests can reach the terrace bar, subject to availability, and the hotel recommends reserving. Tables can be booked by phone through the hotel. Age rules aren't published.

Tips

  • Reserve a terrace table by phone ahead of time if you aren't staying.
  • Smoking is allowed on the terrace, so check that suits your group.

Before you go. Confirm your dates fall outside the November to March restriction if swimming is the reason you're booking.
