When to swim on a Cancun rooftop

July to September are the best three months for a rooftop swim in Cancun. Winter stays warm: average highs are 30.1°C in November, 28.9°C in December and 28.5°C in January. Only Mondrian Cancun lists a heated pool, and the hotel doesn't say whether that is the rooftop, so ask before you book for a cool evening.

Events fill hotels. Cancun Jumpoff runs every Memorial Day Weekend, with the 2027 edition listed as May 26-31. In January 2027, Out of the Blue Festival (January 7-10, at Moon Palace Cancun) is followed by Crash My Playa (January 13-16). Book early for those dates, and reserve any day pass well ahead.

Average daily highs: November 30°C (86°F), December 29°C (84°F), January 29°C (83°F). The warmest stretch for swimming is Jul–Sep.

Where to stay: Cancun's rooftop pools by area

Punta Cancún

Punta Cancún, a peninsula in the northeast Hotel Zone, is the area for nightlife and is nicknamed the Party Zone. Royalton Chic, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Ziva and Aloft are here.

Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera)

The Hotel Zone is a beach-lined strip about 14 miles (22.5 km) long, with one main road, Avenida Kukulkan. Temptation Cancun is on Kukulcan Boulevard, and Akuazul sits at Km 23.5 of the same boulevard.

Cheaper ways to swim in Cancun

The theme parks Xcaret, Xplor, Xel-Há and Xoximilco are open to anyone, with no hotel stay needed. They aren't rooftop pools, and an adult ticket price isn't published, so check current prices before weighing them against Hive's MX$700 day pass.

  • Cancún theme parks (Xcaret, Xplor, Xel-Há, Xoximilco). Only one source describes a public attraction open to anyone. It gives a basic price range (~$130–150) and a Plus range (~$190–215), but does not label either as the adult admission price.

Hotels you might expect here, and why they're not

Six well-known Cancun resorts have pools but no rooftop pool, so we left them off the ranked list.

  • Grand Park Royal Cancún. The hotel's site mentions general pools ("piscinas") and in-suite plunge pools on private terraces, but no rooftop pool. The Google Maps listing has no pool details.
  • Mex Hoteles Cancún Centro. No source mentions a swimming pool at this hotel. The hotel's own "The Roof" page describes a rooftop space for evening gatherings, with no pool mentioned, so it falls under rooftop venue without a pool.
  • Crown Paradise Club Cancún. The hotel's site mentions a garden-view pool and a water park with slides, but no rooftop pool. The Google Maps listing gives only the address.
  • Meliá Casa Maya Cancún. The hotel's own site describes outdoor pools beside the Caribbean and a water park pool, with no roof or top-floor pool stated. Only one source covers the pool, so this is not a rooftop pool.
  • Paradisus Cancún. No source says the pool is on the roof or a top-floor terrace. The hotel's site lists an outdoor swimming pool, and the spa plunge pool is inside YHI Spa.
  • The Westin Cancun Resort & Spa. No source mentions a rooftop or top-floor pool. Sources describe several outdoor pools among palm groves and beachfront areas, so the pools appear to be ground-level.
  • The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa, Cancun. No source places any swimming pool on the roof or a top-floor terrace. Sources mention multiple pools at ground level by the beach and ocean, with no rooftop pool.
  • Wyndham Grand Cancún All Inclusive Resort & Villas. The hotel's own site says it has three pools, described as outdoor. No source places any pool on the roof or a top-floor terrace, so it is not classed as rooftop.
