Choose Villa de Laredo if you're staying anyway and want a rooftop pool that guests use up to checkout time. Of the hotels on our list, it alone states plainly that its pool is guests only.

The pool

A 3-star hotel on Paseo Marítimo Rey de España has its pool on the roof (azotea), with sunbeds and views over Fuengirola. It uses a salt-water system. The catch is that it is closed to outsiders, and the hotel says it is not wheelchair accessible.

Our take

Villa de Laredo is the clearest on access. Higuerón Hotel, Higuerón Gran Málaga and Pierre & Vacances leave their rules unpublished, while this one states the pool is for guests. That makes it easy to plan, and it is a 3-star price bracket next to the Higuerón properties.

You can't swim without a room. No day pass is listed, and no floor, hours or heating are published. If a wheelchair-accessible pool matters, skip it, because the hotel's own FAQ says the pool is not accessible.

Getting in

No day pass is listed, and age rules aren't published.

Tips

  • On your last day, swim before checkout. The hotel lets guests use the pool until then.
  • Book for July to September, the best three months for swimming here.

Before you go. Check the hotel's FAQ if anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, since it says the pool is not accessible.
