Choose Kempinski to swim without a room: it is the only hotel on our list that sells non-guest access. The Daily Pass is sold on kempinski.com and also covers the spa. The price isn't shown.

The pool

The rooftop pool has gardens, sunbeds and Jakarta skyline views, and the hotel's address is Jl. MH Thamrin No.1, Menteng. A main pool in the centre is joined by a smaller one for younger guests. The floor isn't published, and neither is the day pass price.

Our take

Every other hotel on our list either limits the pool to guests or doesn't say who can swim. Kempinski is the exception, and its pass buys more than a pool ticket: the spa's steam room, sauna and hot and cold plunge come with it. That makes it the easiest choice for a visitor staying elsewhere in Menteng, such as at The Hermitage.

The catch is the price. The hotel doesn't show it, and the pass is arranged over WhatsApp, so you can't compare costs before you ask. Heating isn't published either. Message first, get the figure, then decide.

Getting in

Staying guests can swim. Visitors who aren't staying can buy a Daily Pass, sold on kempinski.com and arranged via WhatsApp. It includes full Kempinski Spa access: the pool, steam room, sauna and hot and cold plunge.

The hotel doesn't show the pass price, and it doesn't publish hours or age limits for non-guests. The smaller pool is meant for younger guests, so families are expected.

Day pass. Passes are sold on kempinski.com; check the price for your date there. See passes.

Tips

  • Message the hotel on WhatsApp before you travel and ask for the pass price and the days it is available.
  • Ask whether the spa facilities are open on the day you want, since the pass covers them as well as the pool.

Before you go. Get the Daily Pass price in writing over WhatsApp, because kempinski.com doesn't show it.
