The pool
The 4th-floor rooftop deck at 605 Davis St looks out on Lady Bird Lake, over Rainey Street. Loungers, private cabanas and daybeds ring the water, and The Rooftop Pool Bar serves cocktails, local beers and light bites. The deck is aimed at adults and couples, so families will find it a poor fit.
Our take
Van Zandt is the pick for winter and shoulder-season swims. January is Austin's coolest month, and a heated, all-season pool matters then. Omni and Hilton both say weather permitting, and Hilton closes its pool bar for fall and winter.
The catch is height. At the 4th floor, this is a far lower deck than the Westin's 20th, so expect a lake view over Rainey Street rather than a skyline panorama. Guests also pay a $35 per night plus tax amenity fee that covers the pool.
